2011 M5 To Kick Out 550 HP
BMW is already working on a way to bring the power levels of the AMG up by the time the new M5 is revealed in 2011. In order to accomplish this the output needs to be more than current model’s – which is 501 horsepower. BMW till have to get rid of the V10 5.5 liters and give it a couple turbos and use direct-injection in order to bring it up to at least 550 horsepower.
Grunt will be shoveled to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or the new seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch ‘box. Another way that they are looking to reduce emissions and increase output is through the DI and twin turbochargers.
BMW is working hard to makes sure that the new 5-series (which comes out in 2010) will be their most fuel efficient cars. Because of this they will be using the start/stop technology on the engine as well as the Efficient Dynamics system that will use regenerative braking to lower the load on the alternator.
