2007 Hydrogen 7-Series
The auto market can change as quickly as anything. One of the biggest changes that we are seeing in the past couple of years are hydrogen vehicles that will help the enviroment, or so we hope. It is no surprise that BMW has jumped on the bandwagon and decided to take part in this new little venture.
BMW has decided to use the 7-series has the vehicle that will run on liquid hydrogen and secure the future of our enviroment. The 7-series will have a 256-hp 6.0 liter V12 with a dual-mode drive system. This will allow the vehicle two choices, it can either tap into its 19.5 gallon gasoline tank or it can tap into its 17.6 pound liquid hydrogen tank.
Of course it is up to the driver which tank they would rather run on. They can easily switch back and forth by using a switch which will be located on the dashboard. Now if the driver were to forget to switch over then the vehicle will automatically do it once one of the two runs out. The hydrogen can carry up to 125 miles worth of liquid hydrogen and the gasoline tank can carry up to 300 miles worth.
BMW was smart to choose the 7-series as their showcase vehicle for this. There are so many components and parts that go along with the hydrogen engine that it makes it easier for mechanics to place it in this vehicle without cramping in on anything else including the driver.
Now many consumers are wondering if this new cutting-edge vehicle will acctually help the enviroment. Studies have shown that pure hydrogen does not contain carbon, like gasoline emissions, which means that there is no unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide leaking out of the vehicle. Sounds pretty good to us.
